Foreword

By Prof. Jose Maria Sison

A book version of the Kontra-Impe series is a fitting and meaningful contribution to the celebration of the birthday of Gat Andres Bonifacio and the founding anniversary of the Kabataang Makabayan (KM) on November 30. It is certainly in line with the promotion of alternative education being undertaken by Institute for Nationalist Studies (INS) to foster creative and critical thinking among the youth of today. This is an important part of its national and democratic program to arouse, organize and mobilize the Filipino youth.

The book aptly includes Armando Liwanag’s "On Monopoly Capitalist Globalization" (1996) and Rebolusyon’s "Still in the Era of Imperialism and World Proletarian Revolution". I am deeply pleased that the book also includes some of my articles such as "Contradictions of the World Capitalist System" (2001) and "Updates on Imperialism" (2003). The entire book can help provide the youth with a comprehensive, anti-imperialist education towards a finer and deeper understanding of the nature and workings of imperialism.

There is a growing need for such alternative education in the face of the continuing onslaught of imperialist and pro-imperialist petty-bourgeois propaganda and the consequences of neoliberal "free market" globalization or imperialism that continue to aggravate the suffering of the the Filipino youth and people and the entire humanity.

As the crisis of the world capitalist system sharpens, a single imperialist superpower or a combination of imperialist powers goes on a plundering and killing rampage, doing the worst to the people of the world. In the current situation, the Filipino youth and the rest of the Filipino people engage in mass campaigns and revolutionary actions against imperialism and all reaction.

The book highlights what history shows - that conditions of imperialist crisis and war give rise to all forms of popular struggles, especially the armed revolution, for national liberation, democracy, socialism and just peace.###
