Join the Global Days of Action on March 17 & 18
Against US Aggression and Occupation of Iraq

By Prof. Jose Maria Sison
Chairperson, International Coordinating Committee
International League of Peoples' Struggle
March 10, 2007

On March 20, 2003, Bush and Blair led the US and Britain into the war of aggression against Iraq on the basis of lies. They did so despite their failure to get the approval of the UN Security Council for going to war. They did so despite widespread opposition from the people of the world who marched in the streets in their tens of millions in hundreds of cities around the globe.

But four years after killing hundreds of thousands of Iraqis, squandering hundreds of billions of dollars and creating widespread destruction and chaos, the aggressors and their puppets face certain defeat in Iraq. The armed resistance of the Iraqi people continues to grow in strength and inflict casualties on the aggressor troops on a daily basis. The puppet government set up by the US is inutile and powerless. The Iraqi resistance has defeated the sole imperialist superpower with the biggest and most powerful war machine today.

We salute the people of Iraq for persevering in and intensifying their revolutionary struggle. We congratulate them for winning great victories against the imperialist forces of occupation and their puppets despite all the barbarities of these and their evil efforts to divide and rule the country and the people by inflaming religious and ethnic differences . As a consequence of the valiant struggle of the Iraqi people themselves, the people of the world have become more resolute and militant in condemning and opposing US imperialism and all its criminal accomplices.

The resistance of the Iraqi people against imperialist aggression serves as an inspiration to the oppressed peoples in Asia, Africa and Latin America who are waging their own struggle against imperialism and local puppet regimes. As in Vietnam, the victory of the Iraqi resistance proves once more that imperialism is a paper tiger. US imperialism has undermined its own strength by overreaching and has been thwarted by armed resistance. The people of the world recognize the weaknesses and vulnerabilities of US imperialism and are emboldened to wage all forms of resistance.

The American people have sent a clear message against the war by voting against Bush's Republican Party in the Congressional and Senatorial elections. They want to end the futile and costly war of aggression. They want to bring home the troops now. They want the US out of Iraq now. But the bourgeois politicians of both parties continue to defy the will of the American people because they are united in their unwillingness to give up on the real purpose of the US in going to war in Iraq: control of the oil resources of that country and unchallenged US hegemony in the Middle East.

It is therefore necessary for the American people to raise their struggle to a new and higher level and press for the end of the war of aggression and occupation of Iraq, the impeachment of the topmost war criminals in Washington and the criminal prosecution of the war profiteers and their corrupt accomplices in the US government.

The International League of Peoples' Struggle (ILPS) is one with the people of the world in calling for an end to the US-led war aggression and occupation of Iraq. We call on all the ILPS participating and allied organizations to commemorate the fourth year of the war by launching protest actions in their respective countries in conjunction with the call for the Global Days of Action Against the War on Saturday and Sunday, March 17 and 18.

We urge the people of the world to join hands in demanding the end of the war and immediate withdrawal of occupation forces in Iraq so as to allow the sovereign Iraqi people to chart their own course without outside interference, especially from the imperialists headed by the US.

STOP THE WAR! US OUT OF IRAQ NOW! BRING HOME THE US TROOPS NOW!
DOWN WITH US IMPERIALISM, THE NUMBER ONE ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE OF THE WORLD!
STOP THE RAMPAGE OF THE NO. 1 TERRORIST POWER AND PLUNDERER OF THE WORLD!
ADVANCE THE STRUGGLE FOR NATIONAL AND SOCIAL LIBERATION AGAINST IMPERIALISM AND ALL FORMS OF REACTION!
LONG LIVE INTERNATIONAL SOLIDARITY!
