JOSE MARIA SISON TO PRESENT TWO NEW BOOKS
AND CELEBRATE LEGAL VICTORY IN AMSTERDAM

Friends and acquaintances are coming together in Amsterdam on 9 May 2009
to celebrate the legal victory that Prof. Jose Maria Sison recently obtained in
the Dutch judicial system, and to join in launching his two latest books.
A well-known political and economic analyst, Prof. Sison is releasing two volumes
of a planned four-volume book series of his writings from 1991 – 2009. New
owners of the books will have the opportunity to get their copies autographed
by Prof. Sison himself.
Volume 2, For Democracy and Socialism against Imperialist Globalization, contains Prof. Sison's writings from 1995-2000. The book focuses on the characteristics of imperialist globalization and the necessity for proletarian revolution and socialism.
The launching of the two new books is also an occasion to celebrate Prof. Sison's legal victory in the Netherlands.
The Openbaar Ministerie (public prosecution service) announced on 31 March that it had decided to dismiss the case against Prof. Sison concerning the deaths of two military agents of the Arroyo government because of insufficient legal and convincing evidence. This decision brings to a close almost 20 months of legal persecution involving the arrest and incarceration for 17 days of Prof. Sison; police forcibly barging into his home; confiscation of his and wife Julie's personal belongings; and the constant threat of arbitrary arrest and house searches.
“The decision of the Dutch Public Prosecution Service is long overdue and much delayed,” said Prof. Sison after hearing the good news. “I have always been confident that the case would eventually be dismissed because in the first place I am innocent of the allegation.”
He added, “Moreover, the Dutch courts have previously made a series of decisions to release me from detention because of insufficient evidence and the political context of the case against me.”
The launching of the two books and celebration will take place on Saturday, 9 May, 3:30 – 6:00 pm, in the Mirror Centre in Amsterdam-Oost, just a stone's throw away from the Muiderpoort station. [DEFEND International]
