ILPS Condemns Brutal Attacks by Turkish Regime
and Supports the Struggle of Turkish People

By Prof. Jose Maria Sison
Chairperson, International Coordinating Committee
International League of Peoples' Struggle
30 September 2006

The International League of Peoples' Struggle (ILPS) is in firm solidarity with the people of Turkey and strongly condemns the recent brutal attacks and bombing by the Turkish regime against them for daring to stand up for their rights and to oppose the sending of soldiers to Lebanon. Such attacks will not deter the militant people of Turkey and Kurdistan from opposing imperialist and Zionist aggression in the Middle East.

The Turkish fascist regime has concentrated its most vicious attacks on revolutionary and progressive organizations of trade unions, women, youth and media. These attacks resulted in the killing of a 9-year old and the arrest of more than 200 activists and imprisonment of 18.

On September 5 and 6, the peaceful rally against the decision of the Turkish state to send troops to Lebanon was brutally attacked by the reactionary troops. More than 60 activists were arrested and 18 imprisoned.

On September 21, the military and police raided the offices of militant people's organizations and media. They destroyed equipment and confiscated files, photo cameras and computers. In said raids, 64 people were arrested including the editor-in-chief of Atilim, a broadcaster of the radio Ozgur and a representative of the ESP-Socialist Platform of the Oppressed.

All these attacks in Turkey which are being launched in the name of the imperialist sponsored anti-terror law will never cow nor break the resistance of the people of Turkey against imperialism and their lackeys. On the contrary, these attacks will only strengthen the determination of the people of Turkey to struggle.

We call on the participating organizations of the International League of Peoples' Struggle to send messages of solidarity and support to the people of Turkey and demand the immediate release of the arrested activists and justice for the victims of the brutal attacks.
