Cover Letter for Petition

10 February 2010

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Warmest greetings of solidarity!

Attached hereto are the following:

  1. Statement of the International Committee DEFEND: Continue the Struggle for the Rights, Residence and Benefits of Prof. Jose Maria Sison.
  2. Petition to the Dutch Government for the Grant of Residence Permit to Prof. Jose Maria Sison.
The statement is meant to explain the continuing struggle for the rights, residence and social benefits of Prof. Sison. This is the basic material for the information campaign to generate support for him.

The petition is for the purpose of collecting as many signatures as you can. It focuses on the key demand for the grant of permanent residence status to Prof. Sison. If he has the residence permit, then it follows that his rights and social benefits are clearly guaranteed.

Please send the petition with signatures directly to the Dutch authorities and provide us with copies for our file and information. Otherwise please send these to us so that we in the committee shall be the ones to forward it to the Dutch authorities. In any case, we shall include your name among those signing the petition we publish online.

We are publishing the statement and petition online in order to give them the widest dissemination and to further collect signatures. You may also reproduce and circulate as many copies of the statement and petition as you deem necessary for gathering support. You may do so in the print and digital media.

Thank you for your active cooperation.

For the International Committee DEFEND

Ruth de Leon
International Coordinator
