International Defend Committee Defends Sison and Condemns Arroyo Regime for Fakery
By Committee to Defend Filipino Progressives in Europe
03 September 2006
The International DEFEND Committee, which is dedicated to the defense of Filipinos abroad whose civil and political
liberties are violated, is hereby standing up and speaking up in defense of Prof. Jose Maria Sison against the false
accusation of unconfirmed AFP chief of staff General Hermogenes Esperon Jr. that he ordered the killing and mass
burial of 300 people somewhere in southern Leyte province in the eighties.
General Esperon is clearly lying in view of the fact that Prof. Sison was under maximum security detention by the
military under the Marcos fascist regime 1977 to 1986 and that after teaching for six months in the University of
the Philippines in 1986 he left the Philippines on August 31, 1986 for his international lecture tour. Since 1986,
he has been abroad and has not performed any political party function in the Philippines.
General Esperon is a master of fakery. He rigged the 2004 elections in Mindanao in order to deliver fake votes to
Gloria M. Arroyo. He is once more engaged in fabrication about the mass killing of 300 people in the eighties to
benefit the fake president Arroyo. It is intended to deflect attention from the extrajudicial killings, disappearances
and other human rights violations for which the Arroyo regime has been held responsible by Amnesty International
and other human rights organizations.
We condemn the Arroyo regime, especially the biggest liar of all Gloria M. Arroyo, for wantonly using the military
and police to engage in extrajudicial killings, abductions and other grave human rights violations and trying to
obscure its own criminal culpability by spreading intrigue and laying the blame on the revolutionary forces.
The national security adviser, the generals and military psywar experts have several times fabricated stories about
mass burial grounds of the New People's Army in Misamis Occidental, Bukidnon, Quezon and the like. In some cases
they have desecrated the remains of indigenous people in old burial grounds. But after the media hype, the fake
stories fade away.###
