Statement Against US Anti-Cuba Manoeuvre in the UN Commission on Human Rights

Press Statement
4 April 2005
From March 14 to April 22, 2005, the UN Commission on Human Rights holds
its 61st Session in Geneva. The US government is once again using this forum to
attack Cuba in pursuance of imperialist hegemonic aims. We condemn this latest
US maneuver and express our solidarity and support to the people and government
of Cuba in defending national sovereignty.
The Cuban people became the mortal enemy of the US when they overthrew the
puppet Batista government in a popular revolution and did away with US domination
over Cuba. Since then, the US has engaged in all kinds of hostile actions, overt and
covert, ranging from economic blockades, assassination plots against Pres. Castro and
other leaders to outright invasion such as the failed Bay of Pigs project in 1961. All
of these actions have been carried out in order to undermine and subvert the national
sovereignty of the Cuban people and destroy the social achievements they have
gained by charting their own course.
The US continues to coddle certain Cuban exiles in Florida for terrorist activities
against the Cuba people. The case of Orlando Bosch is very revealing. Bosch had
participated in more than 30 terrorist acts. He was convicted of firing a rocket into
a Polish ship while on its way to Cuba. He was also involved in the 1976 blowing-up
of a Cuban plane flying to Havana from Venezuela in which all 73 civilians on board
were killed. At the request of Jeb Bush, Pres. George Bush Sr intervened to release
the convicted Cuban terrorist from prison and then granted him US residency.
The US has no moral standing to make any judgment on the human rights situation
in Cuba or in any country for that matter because it is the No. 1 imperialist power.
It is the No. 1 plunderer, terrorist and aggressor in the world. It is the No. 1 human
rights violator.
In the US invasion and occupation of the Philippines, the US aggressors killed 1.5 million
Filipinos from 1899 to 1914. The US killed more than 200,000 people in the atom
bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan, 4.5 million Korean lives in the Korean War,
more than 6 million Indochinese lives in the war against Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia
and more than one million Indonesian lives in the US-instigated the massacres in Indonesia.
The US has sponsored tyrants such as Ngo Dinh Diem of South Vietnam, Park Chung
Hee of South Korea, Marcos of the Philippines, Mobutu of Zaire, and a long list of military
dictators in Latin America who terrorized their own people. It has long collaborated with
the Israeli Zionists in slaughtering the Palestinian people, depriving them of their homeland
and suppressing their national aspirations. The US wars of aggression against Iraq,
Yugoslavia and Afghanistan are gigantic acts of terrorism, involving the massacre of
thousands upon thousands of civilians with weapons of mass destruction.
The US is an international outlaw and is the No.1 rogue state. It brushes aside
international conventions and international institutions including the United Nations
and its agencies declaring them "irrelevant" whenever these do not conform or
acquiesce to its global geopolitical designs.
The US has unilaterally arrogated unto itself the right of preemptive action and
nuclear first strike, puts itself above all countries and above the UN Charter and
has kept itself out of treaties that either control or ban weapons of mass destruction.
While engaging in grand-scale terrorism, it insists on immunity for its officials and
military personnel and impunity for all their war crimes, crimes against humanity
and crimes of genocide. It is using the UN Security Council and bilateral agreements
with pliant governments to guarantee for its officials and personnel immunity from
charges of war crimes.
The US wants to re-colonize Cuba and install a puppet government as in the days
of Batista. On May 6, 2004 President George W. Bush gave his approval to the
report from the so-called Committee for the Assistance to a Free Cuba. The
stated aim is to "hasten a change of regime" in Cuba by all possible means,
including military means. Its political maneuvers to discredit Cuba are part of this
grand design to justify its eventual re-colonization of Cuba.
The US should be stopped from using the UN Commission on Human Rights
to serve the interest of US imperialism. We condemn the US government for
using prevarication, bullying and blackmail to round up support for its malicious
position and activities against Cuba and the Cuban people.
We express our solidarity with the Cuban people and their government in
standing up to the US -the arrogant superpower and number one rogue
state -- in asserting their national sovereignty and their right to chart their
own independent course. We call on organizations and all people of goodwill
to express their solidarity with the Cuban people by signing the petition in
the following website: www.cubadh.net. ###
