Call for Support for the International Day of Action
Against US Intervention in the Philippines
By Prof. Jose Maria Sison

10 November 2006
The International League of Peoples' Struggle (ILPS) calls on all its participating organizations
and all its progressive allies to join and support the International Day of Action Against US
Intervention in the Philippines on November 21, 2006 initiated by BAYAN-Philippines, a
participating organization of the ILPS.
This international action has been organized by BAYAN to be held one week before the
pronouncement of the court decision on the case filed against 4 US marines accused of
raping a Filipina (to whom the court has given the pseudonym Nicole to protect her identity
and dignity).
The fight for justice for Nicole is emblematic of the ongoing struggle of the Filipino people
against the rape of Philippine sovereignty and democracy by US imperialism and its successive
local reactionary puppet regimes from Manuel Roxas to Gloria M. Arroyo.
At the turn of the twentieth century, US imperialism took over from Spanish colonialism as
the next colonial master in the Philippines. It later exercised neocolonial rule from 1946
onwards by establishing a puppet republic, using the national politicians of the local reactionary
classes of big compradors and landlords as willing collaborators.
US imperialism has always given the Philippines a strategic role in its global hegemonic designs.
The US used to have military bases in the Philippines that it used extensively for military
intervention and aggression in China, Korea, Indonesia, Indochina and other parts of Asia.
It was forced to vacate these bases in 1991 due to the massive opposition of the Filipino
people. It wants to bring back these bases using the so-called "war on terror" as justification.
US imperialism is the number one terrorist power, guilty of the most destructive wars of
aggression and the most rapacious forms of plunder. It maintains more than 700 overseas
military bases with more than 250,000 troops in around 130 countries. It uses its military
might to bully and threaten other countries. This imperialist power which possesses the
largest arsenal of weapons of mass destruction that includes 10,000 nuclear warheads
poses the greatest threat to humanity and world peace.
But US imperialism faces resistance from the people wherever it commits military intervention
and aggression. It is now very clear that US imperialism is losing the war in Iraq and has failed
to crush the armed resistance in Afghanistan. By voting against the Republicans in the US
mid-term elections, the majority of the American people have shown their repudiation of
George Bush and his war of aggression in Iraq.
Justice to Nicole and other victims of US military abuses!
No to US imperialist intervention and wars of aggression!
Long live the anti-imperialist solidarity of the Filipino people and the people of the world!
