Message to the League of Filipino Students-USA
By Prof. Jose Maria Sison
Chairperson, International Coordinating Committee
International League of Peoples' Struggle
January 12, 2007

On behalf of the International League of Peoples' Struggle, I express warmest greetings of solidarity to the officers, members and chapters of the League of Filipino Students-USA on the occasion of its 10th anniversary.

We congratulate you for all your achievements in political education, organizational work and mobilization among Fil-Am and Filipino students. We join you in celebrating these achievements.

We are aware that you encourage your members to go beyond the formal courses of study in their schools and to study Philippine history, society, economy, politics and culture in order to grasp the general line of the Filipino people's democratic revolution and seek ways of joining or supporting it.

It is fine for your organization to run courses of its own, to promote Philippine studies in American universities and to sharpen the interest of your members to go to the Philippines in order to trace their roots and gain a deeper understanding of the needs, interests and aspirations of the Filipino people by attending courses, doing internship or practicum and integrating with the masses.

We presume that you plan your organizational work. For the purpose, you can get the information as regards where Fil-Am and Filipino students are relatively concentrated in the various states of the US and where you can build your chapters. You can have mobile ED-OD partners for accelerating the formation or upgrading of your chapters.

You can have a periodical and website to serve as regular link among your chapters and members. You can have cultural teams to link with the students who are interested in cultural work. Filipino faculty members in US schools and Filipino community and professional organizations can help you a lot in linking up with your fellow students.

You are committed to contributing to the struggle of the Filipino student youth and the people in your motherland. They are undergoing terrible suffering and need your support and cooperation. Pay attention to the issues crying out for your attention. Mobilize the Fil-Am and Filipino students and the Filipino community in general and seek the solidarity and support of the American people and various migrant communities.

The US imposes extremely oppressive and exploitative policies on the Filipino people, like "neocolonial globalization" and the Bush global war of terror. The Arroyo puppet regime is extremely servile in accepting and implementing US policies and engaging in acts of plunder and in gross human rights violations.

We support your determination to strive for greater achievements. In this regard, we urge you to sum up your experience, learn lessons from it and set forth the tasks for advancing further. Only thus will you score greater achievements in the coming years. ###
