Gonzales Should Stop Repeating Lies
Against Prof. Jose Maria Sison
By Fidel V. Agcaoili
Chairperson, Human Rights Committee
National Democratic Front of the Philippines
26 January 2006
National Security Adviser Norberto Gonzales is clearly telling a lie when he accuses Professor
Jose Maria Sison, chief political consultant of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines,
of being responsible for the deaths of Colonel Rodolfo Aguinaldo and the two intelligence
and security consultants of the Arroyo regime, Romulo Kintanar and Arturo Tabara.
The Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Philippines and the pertinent commands
of the New People's Army have publicly admitted that the NPA arresting unit gave battle to
the aforesaid casualties in separate incidents in 2001, 2003 and 2004 because they and their
companions were armed and dangerous.
By virtue of his long absence from the Philippines and his role as chief political consultant in
peace negotiations, it was impossible for Prof. Sison to be part of any deliberations of any
organ of the CPP or NPA or any people's court to place beforehand the aforesaid casualties
in the standing order list of suspects who were subject to arrest or battle because they
were armed and dangerous.
Gonzales uses the false accusation against Prof. Sison to make an even more malicious
psywar spin that the deaths of Aguinaldo, Kintanar and Tabara prove that there is a
"purge" in the CPP and that the CPP and NPA are responsible for the more than 820
victims of extrajudicial killings, which have been perpetrated under Oplan Bantay Laya
of the Arroyo regime from 2001 to the present.
Gonzales conceals the fact that the hundreds of extrajudicial killings were first publicly
denounced as "communists" and subjected to obvious surveillance and intimidation by
the military and police before they were finally murdered by motorcycle and van-riding
death squads. A major part of Oplan Bantay Laya is the intimidation and murder of
progressive legal activists.
The Arroyo regime and its US military advisors describe the extrajudicial killings as military
intervention in the political sphere by combining handpicked military and police personnel
and elements from anti-communist groups like those of Norberto Gonzales and Jun
Alcover. The diabolical scheme is to kill off suspected communists and blame the
communists for the killing. For the purpose, the anti-communist headhunters have
fabricated Operation Bushfire, which makes it appear that the communists are killing
communists.
Gonzales is like Goebbels. He keeps on repeating his lies against Prof. Sison in the
belief that these can become accepted as the truth, especially when he uses the
media facilities of the state like the Philippine Information Agency, and the statements
of the NDFP are either ignored or are not given as much prominence by the corporate
mass media.
Gonzales makes the claim that he has more witnesses against Prof. Sison and that he
has tucked them away abroad for their safety. Self-respecting journalists should not
let such statements pass unchallenged, especially because Gonzales and his military
and police underlings have a track record of putting up so-called witnesses that utter
outright lies and hearsay.
It should be recalled that newspaper headlines were made about the charge of
rebellion against Prof. Sison and others in late February last year. The affidavits
taken from false witnesses against Prof. Sison were quietly withdrawn as "inadequate"
subsequently in April.
In another propaganda blast, the military accused him, together with NDFP Negotiating
Panel Chairperson Luis Jalandoni and Rep. Satur Ocampo, of having signed in the
presence of "witnesses" in Leyte in 1984 an order to massacre people under a
so-called Oplan VD. At the time, Prof. Sison was in solitary confinement and Rep.
Ocampo was under maximum security detention. And Jalandoni had been abroad
since 1976.
The psywar statements of Norberto Gonzales and his military and police underlings
are actually stupid and easily exposed as mendacious by the slightest investigation.
But they are accorded the privilege of power in the major channels of information.
Worst of all, they are used to justify the bloody campaigns of suppression in the
rural areas and the extrajudicial killing and abduction of progressive legal activists
under Oplan Bantay Laya I and II. ###
