BRIEF REMARKS OF PROF. JOSE MARIA SISON AT THE AMSTERDAM LAUNCH OF VOLUMES 3 & 4 By Professor Jose Maria Sison 15 May 2010 Dear Colleagues and Friends, I wish to express my gratitude to the International Committee DEFEND for organizing this event, to all of you for taking the time and effort to come here, to Professor Mario A. Fumerton and Prof. Paoyu Ching for agreeing to review the volumes to be launched, to Jefrey Guiban for singing a song in my honor and to the documentary photographers Viory Schellekens and Nwel Saturay for exhibiting photos on me as the subject. I am very glad that Volumes 3 and 4 of the four volume series of my selected writings from 1991 to 2009 are being launched today. Volume 3 is entitled Crisis of Imperialism and People's Resistance and Volume 4 is People's Struggle Against Imperialist Plunder and Terror (Volume 4). Last year, the two earlier volumes were launched also in Amsterdam. Volume 1 is entitled For Justice, Socialism and Peace and Volume 2, For Democracy and Socialism Against Imperialist Globalization. Copies of these are available to make sure that the book buyers can have a complete set of the four volumes. The publisher, Aklat ng Bayan, undertook the project of publishing these volumes as part of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of my service to the Filipino people. For your information in advance, there are more volumes of selected writings to be published eventually in order to cover the period of 1959 to 2000 and provide a fuller celebration of my service to the people, especially the extremely dangerous struggles against the Marcos fascist dictatorship. I am pleased that the International Committee DEFEND considers this launch of Volumes 3 and 4 as part of the continuing celebration of my legal victories, one of which is the dropping of the false murder charge against me by the Dutch prosecution service and the other is the removal of my name from the terrorist blacklist of the European Union by the European Court of Justice. I wrote the selected writings in the current four volumes in various capacities since 1991, inter alia as a fervent student of Marxism-Leninism, as the founding chairman of the Communist Party of the Philippines, as a teacher of political science, as chief political consultant of the National Democratic Front Peace Panel and as the chairperson of the International League of Peoples' Struggle. The selected writings take up a comprehensive range of the most important Philippine and global issues from 1991 to 2009. They reflect not only the past but more importantly they lay bare the most important ideological, political, economic , social and cultural currents and countercurrents that continue to shake and move the Philippines and the world in certain directions. We are living today in interesting times. A severe crisis unprecedented since the Great Depression and World War II is shaking the world capitalist system. I hope that my writings can shed light on the causes of the intolerable suffering of the proletariat and people of the world and on the road of revolutionary resistance that leads to a fundamentally new and better world. I need not speak any longer. We have highly competent book reviewers. Prof. Dr. Mario A, Fumerton, a professor in conflict studies at the University of Utrecht, will review Volume 3. And Prof. Paoyu Ching, professor emeritus of economics at Marygrove College, will review Volume 4. After we listen to the book reviews, I shall be ready to sign the sold copies of the volumes. Thank you.###
