Message of Solidarity Ugnayan ng Kabataang Pilipino sa Canada

By Prof. Jose Maria Sison
Chairperson, International League of Peoples' Struggle (ILPS)
Chairperson, International Network for Philippine Studies (INPS)
June 20, 2005

I am glad to know that the Ugnayan ng Kabataang Pilipino sa Canada (UKPC/FCYA) will hold a three-week intensive course on the history and current circumstances of the Philippines and the current situation of overseas Filipinos, starting on June 26.

I am deeply pleased and honored that my writings are among the study materials in the course and that among the organizers of the course are young militants whom I know personally and with whom I studied previously.

I stand in solidarity with you in your firm resolve to cherish the revolutionary heritage of the Filipino people and participate in their great endeavour to continue the struggle for national liberation and democracy against imperialism and local reaction and to win complete victory for a truly independent, democratic, prosperous, just and peaceful Philippines.

It is of absolute necessity that you study Philippine history for the purpose of educating, organizing and mobilizing the Filipino youth for revolutionary resistance. The activists of today must be able to study the deep past as well as recent times in order to learn lessons, foster the accumulated strengths of the people and have a clear understanding of the current factors and tasks for realizing the aspirations of the youth and the people.

It is fine that you lay stress on the First Quarter Storm of 1970. This has signalled the relentless advance of the youth and student movement through struggle against tremendous odds. I hope that though your community practicum projects you can integrate with various sectors of the Filipino community.

I am confident that you will succeed in deepening your knowledge of Philippine history and the role of the youth and entire people in the struggle for national and social liberation. You must draw inspiration and lessons from the FQS for the benefit of the daily struggles of the Filipino-Canadian youth and students to articulate and realize their needs ands demands.

You must engage the youth and entire Filipino community to discuss the common problems and possible solutions through struggle. You must learn to plan and undertake actions, campaigns and other methods to popularize the FQS and carry forward the comprehensive work to mobilize the youth and entire community for upholding, defending and promoting their rights and welfare.

I wish you the utmost success in your three-week study course and in all related activities. May all your efforts result in an ever stronger youth and student movement and Filipino community, all intimately linked with the motherland and ever resolute and militant in contributing to the advance of the Filipino people's struggle for national liberation and democracy.
