Message of Solidarity to the Conference Jointly Organized by KMU and ILPS

By Jose Maria Sison
General Consultant
International League of Peoples’ Struggle

May 6, 2003

I wish to convey warmest greetings of solidarity to all the participants in the conference from May 7-9 which culminates the 19th International Solidarity Affair (ISA).

It is gratifying that the Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU) and the International League of Peoples’ Struggle (ILPS) have jointly organized this year’s ISA and the conference to be opened tomorrow.

I am confident that you will have ample opportunity to exchange ideas and experience on the important and urgent topics and that you will be able to decide what is to be done by the trade union movement on a global scale.

You will be discussing imperialism or monopoly capitalism, "free market" globalization, wars of aggression and state terrorism, how these oppress and exploit the working class and the entire people and what are the tasks of the trade union movement in the anti-imperialist movement for national and social liberation.

I am sure that you will give the utmost attention to what the workers and the trade union movement can do to uphold, defend and promote their hard-won rights at a time when the US and other imperialists are doing everything to escalate oppression and exploitation.

I urge you to transform the provisional study commission on workers’ rights of ILPS into a regular one by expanding and consolidating its membership.

This study commission has the task of continuously monitoring and analysing the conditions of the workers, advocating the rights of workers and providing the ILPS leadership and participants with policy proposals and timely courses of action.

I hope that the KMU and the ILPS will always engage in mutual support and cooperation in fighting for the rights and interests of the working class as well as for the rest of the people who are oppressed and exploited by imperialism and all reaction. ###
